The Beatles were one of the most successful bands in the 20th century, they have sold about 900 million- 1 billion albums worldwide. The members of The Beatles were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
All four members were from Liverpool. In late 1957 John Lennon decided to form a band called The Quarrymen. He soon met left handed guitarist Paul McCartney, who was friends with George Harrison. Ringo Starr was the last member to join the band.
Whilst playing in the Cavern Club in Liverpool, they met Brian Epstein who wanted to polish their image, change their name and be their manager. They agreed and they soon gathered a large following after touring Hamburg, Germany.
They soon got the attention of Parlophone producer George Martin.
They recorded their first album " Please Please Me" in Abbey Road studios, where they continued to record there on. The album spawned huge hit singles that defined The Beatles' style.
The band's peak success ranged from 1962- 1970 where they matched Elv
is Presley with 18 number one singles. Elvis was a major influence to The Beatles, especially Lennon. So they were more than pleased to meet Presley at his home, Graceland. They were friends with singer and guitarist Jimi Hendrix.
In 1964 The Beatles met Bob Dylan in a hotel in New York. Dylan had previously heard the Beatles' song " I Want To Hold Your Hand" and misheard the lyrics " I can't hide" as " I get high". He thought they had taken marijuana before, so he shared some out to the band, eventually changing the course of music forever.
Lather that year, The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show which was a successful show in America. It was watched by 25 million people setting a record that was not broken until Live Aid in 1985.
